This lecture is part two of a series on masticatory muscle pain disorders. Dr. Okeson begins where he left off in
part one with the management of the most common muscle pain disorder, local muscle soreness. He then goes on
to describe the more complicated muscle pain disorders that challenge the clinician. Each muscle disorder is
described as to its etiology, history, clinical characteristics, and most importantly, management. The role of
emotional stress in muscle pain is emphasized and how the dentist can introduce the concept of stress and pain to
the patient in a manner that is meaningful and productive. Dr. Okeson reviews, in great detail, the important role of
the clinician in helping the patient overcome painful muscle conditions.
